On Palm Sunday, when the tornado came through, my dad was working overtime so only Mom and I were home. The tornado struck at night. My mom didn't believe in children sleeping in their parents' bed, but on that night my mom had me in her room where we would be together and she would know that I was safe. Also, because she was afraid and probably didn't want to be alone.
We are always told to stay away from windows when there is a tornado but I remember Mom standing at the window throughout the whole time the tornado was going through. She wouldn't let me over by the window, though.
The next day, Mom, Dad, and I took a drive through the countryside and saw the destruction that tornado had caused. There were houses and barns destroyed and trees uprooted. We had no power on our street for several days. I remember everyone was cooking on their barbeque grills and using lanterns for light.
