I created my websites years ago for the purpose of finding other descendants and give them a place to find each other. A place where we could all get acquainted. A place we could share and exchange our family information and photos. I've never had anyone abuse my websites during all of the time they've existed. What is wrong with people that they would rather steal than do their own research? They obviously don't "get" what genealogy and family history is all about.
I felt really bad for Cyndi Howell when Cyndi's List was stolen. Now, I know how she feels. Someone copied my entire Cheney website and posted it in their public tree. I have removed my photos and posted a notice that I will be password protecting my tribalpages sites. It's a sad world when people have to steal your copyrighted stories and your privately owned photos. Anyone who's ever contacted me knows that I freely share facts and records and often, photos. All they had to do was ask

I'm sorry to hear your research was taken. I've seen my own stuff on other trees and just cringe. Not only because it's mine but because they took it on blind faith that it was accurate. What if I had just been making it all up? It's very frustrating!

I don't mind if they take facts off of my website. That's one of the reasons I have it. They literally put a link to my Tribalpages website in their Ancestry public trees, which put my website in the public member stories that you find when you click on the stories and publications tab.
