My friend and colleague Cindy Freed, who writes the Genealogy Circle blog, asked her readers to send in information on their Civil War ancestors. I shared info on my great grandfather, Francis O. Cheney. Here is the link if you would like to read it. I hope to submit stories about some of my other Civil War ancestors to Genealogy Circle. There is also a post here on my blog about Francis's wife, Martha Jane Uncapher. It is under the Women's History category. http://www.genealogycircle.com/2015/08/22/civil-war-saturday-a-soldiers-story-francis-owen-cheney-co-b-192nd-ohio-volunteer-infantry/

Due to illness, my mom's health situation, and a lot of other things that have been taking my time, I haven't been posting on my blog very often. Please bear with me. I hope to be posting again, at least weekly soon. Also, I am going to be doing some updates and revamping the website so be on the watch for those changes and additions. Thanks for your interest.
For years, I have been trying to discover who Mary Goldsberry's parents were. Mary was Eliza Jane Dobbins Carder's mother. I think I may have found a clue about which Goldsberry family to which Mary belonged. The only problem is that the parents of the possible relative of Mary's are also unknown. I'm trying to find out the relationship between Lucretia Goldsberry who married Eli Bolin in 1816 in Ross County, Ohio and my 3rd great grandmother, Mary E. Goldsberry who married William Henry Dobbins on 7 August 1828 in Ross County, Ohio. She later went to Pickaway County, Greene County, Miami County and Champaign County where maybe she had other Goldsberry relatives. In 1850, Mary Goldsberry Dobbins' daughter, Eliza Jane was living in the household of William P. Boland (Bolin) in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio. William was the son of Lucretia Goldsberry and Eli Bolin. This seems to indicate to me, at least, that Lucretia and Mary must have been closely related. Can anyone help with this? My latest post is now on the In-Depth Genealogist website. http://theindepthgenealogist.com/ive-learned-family-history-nothing-family-history/
The new Going-In Depth is out. My article on church records made the cover! http://theindepthgenealogist.com/going-in-depth/
Here is my post for Veterans Day on The In-Depth Genealogist (http://theindepthgenealogist.com/the-eleventh-hour-lest-we-forget/) . I didn't write a separate one here, because I think this one says it all. Due to the closing of the In-Depth Genealogist, the above link no longer works. This post will be re-posted for Veterans Day, 2019. The new issue of Going-In Depth is out. Cindy's article ison p.7 and mine's on p. 44.http://issuu.com/indepthgen/docs/2013-10-idg_goingindepth/1?e=6765931%2F5225876

I don't know why I didn't think to post this until now. Guess it's because the past few months have been so hectic and crazy. Awhile back, I wrote a guest article for my friend, Derek Davey's blog. If you missed it, you can read it here: http://nwogenalogy.blogspot.com/2013/08/civil-war-prisoners-of-war-not-always.html
Enjoy! I'll be speaking in Urbana for the Champaign County Genealogical Society on September 26, 2013. The program will be So You Want to do Your Family History? and is about how to get started doing your family history. On September 26th, I'll be speaking for the Richland County Genealogical Society at the OGS Library. The topic will be Copus Hill: A Tragedy in Ohio History. I will be presenting the program for the Daughters of Union Civil War Veterans District Meeting on September 28th in Lima. Finding Eliza Jane will be the topic. Hope to see you at one of these events!
